Leadership North Fulton, a leadership training program run by the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, has a long-standing tradition of helping the North Fulton County, Georgia, area through its team service projects. This year, Team Second Chance has elected to assist Crossroads Second Chance North School (CRSCN) in developing its Learn and Serve school programs.

The primary objective of Team Second Chance (one of the Leadership North Fulton Class of 2010 service project teams, which consists of Susan Bucci, The Cottage School; Dawn Collier, Wachovia; Rita Evans, Merrill Lynch; Jerome Huff, Principal-Roswell North Elementary; and Brad Riffel, AEC, Inc.) will be to establish a foundation for the numerous student-oriented Learn and Serve Programs the students do within the community. The Learn and Serve program’s endeavor is to assist students who have been expelled from their local middle or high school programs by giving them a second chance. The student must successfully complete their academic classes and the Learn & Serve Programs at CRSCN. Successful students return to their home school ready to succeed in a traditional setting along with an understanding of the importance of community service. The CRSCN is a Fulton County School located on Mimosa Boulevard in Roswell, Georgia.  The Learn and Serve program is funded by grants and local businesses. To learn more about CRSCN, please click here.

Through a unique fundraiser opportunity in partnership with the Atlanta Opera and Sugo Restaurant & Tapas, Crossroads Second Chance North School and Team Second Chance invite you to join them for a night of great food and great music to benefit this worthy cause.

Come celebrate The Atlanta Opera's presentation of AIDA by Giuseppe Verde, at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, on opening night February 27, 2010. All ticket sales will benefit the students and service learning projects at Crossroads Second Chance North, a Fulton County School Program. A wonderful night has been planned to allow networking among local businesses while enjoying a special menu provided at SUGO Restaurant and Tappas' North Roswell/Crossville Road location.

Please click here for more information on a fundraiser to promote Crossroads Second Chance North School. Share the love with someone special! Tickets can be delivered in a creative Valentine’s Day presentation.

The NEW 2010 Extended and Expanded Hombuyer Tax Credit is creating quite a stir, as did the 2009 First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit.

There are lots of questions surrounding the new tax credit - the answers to a few of them are below:

Is the tax credit for first-time homebuyers only?
No, the NEW Extended and Expanded Homebuyer Tax Credit is for all buyers, with a few exceptions. If you have owned and occupied a residence for five consecutive years of the past eight years, you qualify! First-time homebuyers also qualify.

What is the deadline for the homebuyer tax credit?
The new deadline is approaching, but you still have time! To qualify, you must be under contract to purchase a home by April 30, 2010, and you must close on the property by June 30, 2010.

Is there a minimum purchase price?
No, there is not a minimum purchase price to qualify. However, the maximum price to qualify is $800,000.

What is a tax credit anyway?
A tax credit is a direct reduction in tax liability owed by an individual to the IRS. In the event that no taxes are owed, the IRS will issue a check to the individual for the amount of the credit.

Where can I get more information about the credit?

The next 2010 Regional Issues Forum of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce will focus on local transporation projects. Because transportation and traffic issues are of large concern in the state of Georgia in general and the Atlanta area in particular, this meeting is especially timely.  Roswell, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Milton and Alpharetta will each give an overview of significant, recently completed projects and proposed or scheduled projects for their city. They will also speak on how projects impact or affect connectedness to adjacent cities.

The panel consists of the following local experts: Steve Acenbrak, Roswell, Director of Transportation Service; Tom Black, Sandy Springs, Director of Public Works; Ken Hildebrant, Johns Creek, Director of Public Works; Carter Lucas, Milton, Public Works Director; and Pete Sewczwicz, Alpharetta, Director of Engineering/Public Works.

The meeting will be held at the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce - 11605 Haynes Bridge Road, Suite 100, Alpharetta, Georgia, on Thursday, February 11th, 2010, from 7:45 am - 9:00 am. For more information, please contact Tedra Cheatham at tcheatham@gnfcc.com.
